A Santa Ana man died Friday after he was attacked and stabbed repeatedly by a group of men outside of his home, authorities said.
Jose Jaime Serrano, 26, was attacked about 3 a.m. in the 4500 block of West 3rd Street by at least six men, Santa Ana police spokeswoman Maureen Thomas said.
An 18-year-old Santa Ana youth, who was with Serrano, also was beaten but not stabbed, Thomas said.
Serrano died 5 hours after the attack at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center. The youth, whose name was not released for his protection, was treated at the hospital for facial injuries.
The pair were returning from a neighborhood market when they were confronted by the men. Police said Serrano and the youth apparently did not know their attackers, and they said the attack was not gang-related.
