Judge Rules Navy May Trap Foxes

LOS ANGELES — Red foxes can be trapped and removed from a Seal Beach wildlife refuge to protect two endangered species of birds as long as the foxes are not killed or maimed, a federal judge ruled Friday.
The Navy and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service have been trapping and killing the foxes at the U.S. Naval Weapons Station in Seal Beach since 1986, claiming that they pose a serious threat to the California least tern and the light-footed clapper rail, which were classified as endangered in 1970.
