Chargers to Open on Road, Close at Home Dec. 24

SAN DIEGO — The Chargers will start the 1989 National Football League season on the road the Sunday after Labor Day and finish at home on Christmas Eve day.
In between, they will play a stretch of four 1988 playoff teams in four weeks and appear on national television only once.
The Chargers will open at the Raiders Sept. 10. It will be the 15th time in 17 seasons that the Chargers have opened on the road. They are 8-6 in those games. The Chargers’ home opener will be the next week against Houston. Kansas City visits the following Sunday.
The Chargers will play consecutive games against 1988 playoff teams in Weeks 6 through 9, facing the Seattle Seahawks twice in three weeks, the New York Giants and Philadelphia.
The Chargers’ only nationally televised game is at 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, at home against the Raiders.
They will be on the road four of the final six weeks and close at home against Denver on Dec. 24.
