College Roundup : CSUN to Play for Volleyball Championship

Cal State Northridge advanced to the championship match of the Ball State men’s volleyball tournament with a 15-12, 12-15, 15-9, 18-16 semifinal victory over ninth-ranked Ball State on Friday at Muncie, Ind.
Bob Samuelson had 28 kills and Neil Coffman added 21 for CSUN (10-18). The Matadors face Indiana-Purdue-Ft. Wayne, a 15-6, 3-15, 3-15, 15-11, 15-9 winner over George Mason, in tonight’s final.
SOFTBALL
Canyons 4, Bakersfield 0--Michelle Ruffner pitched a four-hitter, striking out three, to lead Canyons in a crucial Western State Conference game at home. The win moved Canyons (16-13 overall, 6-1 in conference play) into sole possession of second place and dropped Bakersfield (5-2 in the WSC) into third.
Ruffner did not walk a batter and twice worked out of bases-loaded jams.
Debbie Barnard supplied all the offense Ruffner needed, slamming a three-run homer in the third inning. Debbie Rendall doubled and singled for Canyons.
WOMENS’ TENNIS
UC Davis 6, CS Northridge 3--Kaliko Yandall, Caren Hasselo and Heather Miller won singles matches for the Lady Matadors (6-12) in a losing effort in the Pomona tournament.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 7, Occidental 2--Mari Uchida beat Occidental’s Sue Hulse, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5, and teamed with Heather Holben to defeat Stacy Harris and Kellie Wiggin, 6-4, 6-4, in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at Claremont.
