College Roundup : Peters Lifts Titans to 5-4 Victory

Rex Peters had a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth to give Cal State Fullerton a 5-4 victory over UC Santa Barbara Friday in a Big West Conference baseball game at Santa Barbara.
Santa Barbara led, 4-1, after five innings, but Dave Staton started the Titans’ rally with a run-scoring single in the sixth. Staton was two for four.
The Titans (22-12 overall, 3-1 in conference play) pulled to within, 4-3, in the seventh on a two-run homer by Randy Graves. It was the first home run of the season for Graves, who was two for two.
Fullerton scored a run on an error to tie the score, 4-4, in the eighth.
Chris Robinson pitched two innings in relief for the victory. Robinson (4-2) struck out one and allowed no hits.
Jeff Antoon was two for four with a double and run scored for Santa Barbara (21-14-1, 1-3).
In other Big West Conference action:
Fresno State 8, UC Irvine 5 (11 innings)--With two outs in the top of the 11th and runners on first and second, Fresno State’s John Skaggs hit a line drive that left fielder Mike Burton misjudged, resulting in a two-run double that gave the Bulldogs a 7-5 lead. Steve Hosey followed with a single to score Braggs for Fresno State (25-12, 3-1), which is ranked 13th in the nation. The Anteaters (13-18-1, 1-3) tied the score, 5-5, in the eighth as Ed Luna doubled, went to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch. Rich Crane (9-1) went the distance, striking out 11, for the victory.
In nonconference women’s tennis:
UC Irvine 6, Cal State Long Beach 3--Courtney Weichsel defeated Stacey Belkin, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, as the Anteaters (10-12) won all six singles sets at Cal State Long Beach.
