General Instrument Corp.: The New York-based cable and communications equipment firm reported 1989 profit of $86 million, an increase of 29%. Revenue rose 13% to $1.3 billion. The firm attributed the results to continuing improvement as a result of the restructuring accomplished over the past few years and the acquisition of Dalmo Victor from Singer Co. during the year, which expanded its defense electronics business base.
