Shell Denies S. Africa Pullout: Royal Dutch/Shell Group denied a South African radio report that it was about to pull out of South Africa. The announcement followed a report by state-owned South African Broadcasting Corp. that Shell was close to announcing plans to divest. Anglo-Dutch Royal Dutch Shell, the world’s largest oil company, has come under heavy fire from anti-apartheid campaigners around the world for doing business in South Africa, a move they argue helps perpetuate Pretoria’s regime of racial segregation. Analysts say about 1% of worldwide Shell profits originate in South Africa.
