New Toshiba Chip to Have Fast Access Time

TOKYO — Toshiba Corp., the Japanese electronics company, said it will soon market a new memory chip with the world’s fastest access time.
Toshiba said the new product has a maximum access time of 20 nanoseconds or 20 billionths of a second. The company also plans to introduce 25 and 35 nanosecond versions.
Sample prices of 20, 25 and 35 nanosecond versions range from $60.4 to $113.2, the company said.
Sample shipments will start in May and mass production will begin in the summer at a monthly rate of 30,000 units.
