Canyons 14, Santa Monica 12--Canyons scored a season-high nine runs in the eighth inning to overcome a 12-5 deficit in a WSC game at Canyons.
Thirteen players batted in the inning for the Cougars (16-12, 9-4), who chased three pitchers. Don Pedersen belted a run-scoring double and a two-out, two-run single that provided the winning runs.
Leif Christoffersen, who came on in relief in the ninth with one out and runners at first and second, retired the final two batters to earn his fourth save.
Moorpark 10, Bakersfield 1--Todd Gerbovaz scattered seven hits and struck out four with no walks to lead Moorpark (20-10, 9-4) in a WSC game at Bakersfield.
Moorpark scored once in the fourth and added a two-run double by Don Smith in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead. Moorpark’s Darin Furlong, who was two for four, extended his hitting streak to 18 games.
Glendale 9, Pierce 3--Art Chute hit a three-run home run in the fourth and John Bojanac added a three-run home run in the fifth to lead Glendale in a WSC game at Pierce.
Pierce (14-14, 7-6), which had a four-game winning streak snapped, was limited to three runs despite collecting 11 hits.
Cal Lutheran 5-17, Christ College 0-6--Mike Clark (3-1) pitched four shutout innings to earn the win in the first game and Jay Anderson (5-1) was the beneficiary of a barrage of runs in the second game as Cal Lutheran (22-11, 11-3) swept a GSAC doubleheader at Christ College in Irvine.
In the first game, Jeff Broulette was two for four with an RBI. In the second game, Henry Campos was four for five to lead a 22-hit attack. Darnell Mitchell and Broulette each had three hits.
Biola 9, Masters 6--Biola’s Bob Keller and Fred Speck combined for nine of the team’s 13 hits in a nonconference game at The Master’s.
SOFTBALL
Cal Lutheran 1-4, Southern California College 0-3--Danielle Piotrowski scored on a fielder’s choice in the eighth inning of the opener and Cal Lutheran scored twice in the fifth inning of the second game to sweep a GSAC doubleheader at Cal Lutheran. DeeAndra Pilkington (11-2) struck out two and walked one. She was also three for four in the first game.
