CSUN Upsets Fresno St. on Vigo’s Home Run

Freshman third baseman Denny Vigo hit a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to lead Cal State Northridge to a 4-2 nonconference victory over host Fresno State on Wednesday night.
Northridge improved to 19-11-1. Fresno State, ranked 12th in Division I by Collegiate Baseball magazine, is 27-13.
Senior left-hander Fili Martinez (4-3) pitched his third consecutive complete game, allowing six hits and striking out eight.
Fresno State took a 2-1 lead in the sixth on Steve Vondran’s two-out single that scored Tom Goodwin, who extended his hitting streak to 28 games with a bunt single.
Chae-Ho Chong led off the sixth with his eighth home run of the season to make the score, 2-2, setting the stage for Vigo’s home run off Fresno State bullpen ace Bobby Jones that drove in Rusty McLain.
