Chapman College Athletic Director Walt Bowman has negotiated an early end to his contract and will take over immediately as executive director of the Titan Athletic Foundation at Cal State Fullerton, a Fullerton athletic department official said.
Bowman, who has been the athletic director at Chapman for nine years, accepted the TAF position on March 28 and was scheduled to end his tenure at Chapman when his contract expired June 1. As executive director of the foundation, Bowman will oversee fund raising for the athletic department.
However, after meeting with acting Chapman President Jim Doti, Bowman began his duties with the association on Monday, the Fullerton official said.
“I don’t know when Walt will be starting at Cal State Fullerton, but he will be leaving Chapman before the end of his official contract,” Doti said. “We felt it was best for him and Chapman that he end his services at the end of the month.”
Doti also said he will be meeting with members of the Chapman board of trustees and the athletic foundation next week to form a committee to search for a replacement. An interim athletic director will be named at that time.
