Segerstrom Names Lyon Next Arts Center Head

Henry T. Segerstrom, chairman of the Orange County Performing Arts Center, on Thursday named William Lyon to succeed him in April of 1990.
Under new procedures adopted by the Center’s executive board after the Center’s annual meeting, Lyon’s designation will have to be ratified by the board’s nominating committee and approved by the full board, according to Thomas R. Kendrick, the Center’s president.
Lyon, 65, a Newport Beach developer, is now one of five vice chairmen.
In addition to the designation procedure for chairman, the new bylaws stipulate that directors will be limited to three successive 3-year terms, and the chairman will be limited to three successive 1-year terms. The incumbent chairman will name the chairman-designate. After a 1-year hiatus, board members may serve again and chairmen may be reelected.
In an interview after the executive board meeting, Segerstrom said he “totally concurred” with the decision to limit the terms of board members and chairmen.
