NEW YORK — Sources said billionaire hotelier Jay Pritzker joined the wrangling for Eastern Airlines today in a meeting laden with uncertainty following the failed deal to peddle the strike-dogged carrier to former baseball boss Peter Ueberroth.
The sources close to the situation said Pritzker, who reportedly has offered $500 million for Eastern, was among those attending a meeting of lawyers for creditors, the unions and the airline’s management at a Manhattan law firm.
Pritzker, owner of the Hyatt hotel chain, had been interested in buying Eastern but withdrew after Ueberroth announced his agreement to buy it April 6. That deal collapsed Wednesday.
