‘A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings’

How would we treat an angel--even a very shabby one--if it landed among us? Another one of the Gabriel Garcia Marquez-scripted films taken from one of his short stories, and it just misses: Argentine director-star Fernando Birri gives us a buzzing hive of corrupt realistic humanity and tongue-in-cheek fantasy, but he doesn’t extend far enough the gentleness or lyricism at the story’s core. RECOMMENDED
