A Loma Portal man was arrested Friday on suspicion of fatally stabbing another man whom he had invited to spend the night at his apartment, authorities said.
Ronald Jones, 21, of the 3000 block of Barnett Avenue, was taken into custody by homicide detectives after they questioned him about the stabbing, Sgt. Jerry Callaway said.
Jones told police that he stabbed Carlos Guzman, 24, of San Diego in self-defense after Guzman woke him about 3:15 a.m. Friday and attacked him, Callaway said.
Guzman died of stab wounds to his chest, according to a deputy coroner.
The two men had met in bars near Jones’ home at least three times in the past before Friday’s fatal stabbing, Callaway said.
Jones is being held in County Jail without bail.
