Community College Roundup : Orange Coast Holds On to First in Volleyball

Dan Murray and Brian Lewis each had 15 kills to lead Orange Coast College to a 15-9, 15-10, 15-8 victory over L.A. Pierce Friday at Orange Coast in a battle for first place in the South Coast Conference.
Orange Coast improved to 26-1 overall and 15-1 in the conference. OCC leads second-place L.A. Pierce (13-2 in conference) by 1 1/2 matches with four to play.
In other South Coast Conference volleyball:
Golden West 3, Santa Monica 0--Tim Johnson, who has missed the last five weeks with an ankle injury, had 13 kills to lead host Golden West to a 15-5, 15-9, 15-12 sweep. Golden West is 10-6 in conference and in third place.
In Orange Empire Conference golf:
Saddleback 368, Golden West 381, Palomar 385, San Diego Mesa 390, Fullerton 390--Joel Manion of Saddleback shot a two-under 70 and teammate Bob Jacobson shot par 72 for Saddleback at Rancho San Joaquin golf course in Irvine. Rich Clifton of Golden West shot 72, and Tom Woliver of San Diego Mesa, Dan Yury and Chris Jacques of Fullerton all shot 73.
