Having Brant Mittler, M.D., write an article on HMOs is like having the top Pentagon brass write an article on the need for defense spending. Could it be possible that a traditional fee-for-service doctor, whose livelihood is directly threatened by HMOs, might be a little bit biased with regards to his position on HMOs? Could be.
In his column, Mittler refers to the dawning of the “Age of the New Golden Rule.” If you ask me, that’s just the “Old Bottom Line Rule,” and it appears that HMOs are negatively affecting his.
