Authorities today identified the man found dead in his Mission Viejo home Sunday as David Werner, 72, a retired stockbroker. He died from suffocation and multiple stab wounds to the upper body, according to the results of a preliminary autopsy released this morning.
Werner was found dead in his bedroom about 1 a.m. Sunday morning by his 40-year-old daughter Deborah, who also lives at the home. (Story, Part II, Page 3.)
Werner’s single-family home in the 27000 block of El Moro was ransacked, but there was no sign of forced entry. Police have not yet determined anything missing, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Werner and his daughter moved to the quiet residential Mission Viejo neighborhood about a year ago.
