Lu Outduels Chen in Korean Golf With 71

SEOUL, South Korea — Lu Hsi-chuen fired a one-under-par 71 in intermittent rain Sunday and edged fellow Taiwanese pro Chen Liang-hsi by one stroke in the $160,000 Korea Maekyung Open golf championship.
Chen, who shared the lead with Lu going into the final round, shot a 72 Sunday for a total of 278.
Lu’s 11-under-par 277 total won him first prize money of $26,656. He led or shared the lead throughout the championship, the next-to-last leg of the 11-tournament 1989 Asia Circuit.
Rick Gibson of Canada was third with a 280 total on the 6,274-yard, par 72 Nam Seoul Country Club course. One stroke behind at 281 were Craig McClellan of the United States and South Korea’s Lee Myung-ha.
The Asia Circuit moves to Japan next week for its final tournament of the season.
