Leningrad is closer culturally to Vladivostok than to Woodstock, but it will resemble the latter when it hosts a three-day rock festival June 23-25, featuring Woodstock veteran Richie Havens. The Leningrad Rock Festival--to be part of the Soviet city’s “white nights” summer solstice celebration--will be the “greatest number of Soviet and American artists to get together on one stage,” claims Edward Wierzbowski, vice president of Massachusetts-based Global American Television, which is co-producing the event with the Soviet television network Gosteleradio. Negotiations are under way for a U.S. telecast of the 15-hour event, which will be broadcast live in the Soviet Union. The full lineup, which Wierzbowski said will include other Woodstock artists as well as contemporary Western and Soviet musicians, is to be announced soon at a New York press conference.
