Woman Found Beaten to Death Is Identified

Awoman found dead Monday in her Canoga Park home was identified Tuesday as 46-year-old Barbara Shanks, police said.
The woman appeared to have been beaten in the upper body, Los Angeles Police Detective Patrick Conmay said. Los Angeles County coroner’s office supervisor Claude Boucher said Shanks probably died of “blunt force trauma to the head.”
Conmay and coroner’s office investigators said the exact cause of death had not been determined. An autopsy was scheduled for today.
Shanks’ body was discovered about 11:30 a.m. Monday by a friend who entered the home in the 6500 block of Comanche Avenue looking for her, Conmay said. Shanks probably died sometime in the two days before her body was discovered, he said.
Authorities said there were no suspects in the case.
