Army Disciplines 27 for Training Methods

COLUMBUS, Ga. — The Army disciplined 27 noncommissioned and commissioned officers at Ft. Benning for mistreating recruits, a spokesman said Tuesday.
The mistreatment, which occurred in February, sent 36 new soldiers to a military hospital, where doctors diagnosed them as suffering from a muscle deterioration condition brought on by excessive exercise. All but one of the recruits has returned to training, the spokesman said.
