Roger Salkeld, for once, inflicted some damage with his bat as well as his fastball.
Salkeld (7-0), Saugus High’s hard-throwing right-hander, fired a lackluster five-hitter Tuesday as the first-place Centurions pounded Palmdale, 20-5, in a Golden League game at Palmdale.
It was the ninth consecutive win and 12th game without a loss for Saugus (14-2-2, 8-0).
Saugus tagged four pitchers for 18 hits, including doubles by Salkeld, Matt Tull, J. B. Johnson, Glenn Terry and Tom Burges.
Salkeld, who struck out 10, finished with a season-high four walks and he hit two batters in the Falcons’ four-run fifth.
Salkeld, however, led all batters, going four for four with two walks. He also scored four times.
Scott Warr belted a two-run home run to highlight the Centurions’ seven-run third inning.
