Cat Trivia in White House
I live in Lexington, Va., and we receive the Roanoke Times & World News here. Just a few days ago I read an article by Kathleen Hendrix (“White House Cats: Why So Doggone Few?” reprinted from The Times edition of March 27). Since I am a trivia buff I would like to tell you that this article was not all true since President Rutherford B. Hayes owned a Siamese cat and had it living in the White House. He also is credited with bringing the first Siamese cat to America.
I think myself that if a President did have a cat in the White House it would bring prestige to him as a person. Most men feel they are too macho to love a cat, but I don’t think that is the reason. I think they are flustered around a cat since cats reek of independence and most men want everything around them to bow to their wishes.
