Wyngaarden Will Resign from NIH

WASHINGTON — James Wyngaarden, director of the National Institutes of Health since 1982, has told colleagues that he plans to leave the government by Aug. 1, U.S. health officials said Friday.
“He felt he had done what he came to do,” said spokesman Campbell Gardett of the U.S. Health and Human Services Department, the NIH’s parent agency. Wyngaarden himself was not immediately available for comment.
