The State : Prison Escapee Still at Large
- Share via
Lompoc federal prison guards quickly captured one of two convicted Los Angeles-area bank robbers who escaped by hiding in large food containers. The other escapee remained at large, officials said. Manuel Bracamontes, 33, and fellow inmate Albert Gudino, 48, escaped from the maximum-security prison by concealing themselves in cardboard containers stored on the prison kitchen’s loading dock, according to Chuck LaRoe, executive assistant to the warden. When the containers were taken outside the facility’s walls, the two broke out of them and ran, LaRoe said. Prison staffers saw the escape and alerted guards, who chased and caught Gudino. Bracamontes, of Hawaiian Gardens, eluded the pursuers.
