College Roundup : Cal Lutheran Drops Final GSAC Match

The Cal Lutheran men’s tennis team bid a not-so-fond farewell to the Golden State Athletic Conference, suffering its first-ever conference loss.
With 23 consecutive conference victories in three years on the line, the Kingsmen (14-12, 7-1 in conference play) were defeated by Point Loma Nazarene, 5-4, Wednesday at Cal Lutheran.
Next season, Cal Lutheran will be an independent NAIA member before moving on to the NCAA Division III the following year.
Mike Gennette, Cal Lutheran’s No. 1 singles player, defeated Hans Hoegstedt, 6-1, 6-4.
But Point Loma Nazarene recorded wins in three of five singles matches and two of three doubles matches.
John Cress, Point Loma Nazarene’s No. 2 singles player, defeated Tony Cohen, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
VOLLEYBALL
Pierce d. Santa Monica 15-12, 15-12, 15-8--Rico Guimaraes had 15 kills and Corey Davidson had eight blocks for Pierce in a Western State Conference match at Pierce.
The Brahmas (16-2) are ranked No. 2 in the state.
