The Los Angeles City Council has voted to reduce to the lowest levels the business-license taxes paid by day-care centers and licensed day-care facilities in private homes.
In a 12 to 0 vote, the council approved Councilman Zev Yaroslavsky’s proposal to lower the rate category for child-care operators to $1 per $1,000 of their gross receipts. They had been paying $5 per $1,000.
“Child-care providers have been paying local business license taxes at the highest rate, grouped with doctors, lawyers and accountants in the ‘professions and occupations’ category,” Yaroslavsky said.
