Prospectors Gamble, ridden by Robbie Davis, was never seriously challenged as he handily won the $40,000 feature race Thursday by three-quarters of a length at Hollywood Park.
Frost Free, ridden by Laffit Pincay Jr., finished second 6 1/2 lengths in front of Hermes, with Eddie Delahoussaye, in a field of six in the race for 4-year-olds and up.
Prospectors Gamble covered six furlongs in a fast 1:08 4/5 and earned $22,000 for the victory, raising his career earnings to $287,525.
It was the second victory in five starts for the roan son of Crafty Prospector, and he paid $5.40, $2.60 and $2.40. Frost Free returned $2.40 and $2.20, and Hermes paid $3 to show.
Prospectors Gamble shot out of the gate and was clear early to take the win. Frost Free, who lost for the first time in four starts, stayed close to the winner but did not challenge in the closing yards.
Hermes was outrun early and lacked the needed late response.
