NEWPORT BEACH — Police and coroner’s deputies are seeking help in identifying a man who suffered a fatal heart attack while riding his bicycle.
The man, described by police as a Latino between 40 and 50 years old, collapsed early Saturday while bicycling along a grassy path on Placentia Avenue near Flagship Road, coroner’s deputies said. Authorities took him to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian about 2 a.m. and he died minutes later.
The bicyclist was about 5 feet tall, 119 pounds with brown eyes, black hair and a black-and-white mustache. He wore a light blue shirt that read “San Diego ’87 NRA,” a Mighty Ducks sweatshirt, a gray, down-filled jacket, gray slacks and black shoes, police said. A black Nishiki mountain bike was found beside him.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about his identity to call the sheriff-coroner’s division at (714) 647-7400 and refer to case 96-08296-WU or the Newport Beach police at (714) 644-3711 and refer to case 96-13781.
