West Hollywood to Consider Electric Cars for City Fleet

Declaring itself a trendsetter, West Hollywood has pronounced itself a city intent on replacing its fleet of gasoline-fueled cars with electric vehicles.

The City Council recently approved a resolution naming the city as an “Electric Vehicle Model City,” a designation from the Southern California Economic Partnership, a nonprofit regional agency that promotes electric cars and technology. Although the city recently bought a new fleet of cars, it is seeking information on electric vehicles, said Lewis Lester, deputy to Mayor Paul Koretz.

In the future, the city will consider purchasing electric vehicles. Last year, it purchased an electric pickup truck for use by city staff members, and will consider purchasing several more vehicles this year, Lester said.
