Several Valley Sites Offer Tree Recycling
- Share via
With Christmas gone and the new year in motion, something has to be done with that Christmas tree drying up in the corner of the living room.
One way of getting rid of it is by taking it to any of the city of Los Angeles-sponsored or other recycling locations throughout the San Fernando Valley.
The city is offering discount coupons--$2 for adults and $1 for children--to the Los Angeles Zoo for each tree taken to any of its 12 sites.
The four San Fernando Valley locations are:
* Branford Park, 13300 Branford St., in Pacoima.
* Sunland Park, 8651 Foothill Blvd.
* Balboa Sports Center, 17015 Burbank Blvd., in Encino.
* Chatsworth Park South, 22360 Devonshire St.
Also near the Valley are:
* Los Angeles Zoo, in Griffith Park, near the junction of the Golden State and Ventura freeways.
* Hollywood Bowl, 2301 N. Highland Blvd.
Most of the locations will be open only Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. until Jan. 12.
In the West Valley, Los Angeles County is sponsoring a collection site at Gates Canyon Park, 25801 Thousand Oaks Blvd., near Calabasas. No zoo tickets are not offered at that site, however.
Dry trees left in or around the house serve only as fire hazards, warns Brian Humphrey, a spokesman for the Fire Department, adding that trees placed at curbside will not be collected by the city.
More information about the recycling program is available by calling (800) 5-TREE-56.
