Christmas Trees Can Be Recycled at Sites Throughout County
- Share via
Christmas is over and the New Year is in motion--something has to be done with that Christmas tree drying up in the corner of the living room.
One environmentally sound way of getting rid of it is by bringing the wilting evergreen to any of the more than two dozen recycling locations throughout the county.
The city of Los Angeles is offering discount coupons--$2 for adults and $1 for children--to the Los Angeles Zoo for each tree taken to any of its 12 sites.
The city of Los Angeles locations are:
* Los Angeles Zoo, at Griffith Park, junction of Golden State and Ventura freeways.
* Harbor City, Harbor Regional Park, 25820 Vermont Ave.
* Westchester, Westchester Municipal Building, 7166 West Manchester Ave.
* Highland Park, Highland Park Senior Citizen Center, 6200 York Blvd.
* Crenshaw, Rancho Cienega Recreation Center, 5001 Rodeo Road.

Chatsworth Park South, 22360 Devonshire St.
The locations will be open Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. until Jan. 12.
Dry trees left in or around the house are fire hazards, warned Brian Humphrey, a spokesman for the Fire Department, adding that trees placed near curbsides will not be collected by the city. More information about the recycling program is available year-round by calling the city’s hotline at 1-800-5-TREE-56.
