Almost everywhere in Tempe, Ariz., the Arizona State-Ohio State Rose Bowl game was on television, and cheers rang throughout the city and its various bistros when the Sun Devils scored in the first half for a 7-7 tie.
The exceptions were the various tailgate parties around Sun Devil Stadium, where Penn State and Texas fans munched, oblivious to things elsewhere.
“Pasadena, where’s that?” said a man wearing a Penn State T-shirt. “Oh, that’s the place where we won two years ago.”
