Federal Grant to Aid County’s Jobless
Ventura County will use a $659,000 federal labor grant it recently received to help out-of-work residents find jobs, officials said.
Some of the money will be used to help pay for personnel and operations at a new “one-stop job center” in Simi Valley, officials said. Using computer directories and various job-search publications, the center helps put displaced workers in contact with local employers. The center also provides job-training services.
The grant money will also be used to expand computer services at the job center, enabling it to communicate with other job-service agencies around the county, officials said.
Operated by the county’s Human Resources Department, the Simi Valley job center is at 980 Enchanted Way. County officials said there are plans to open another job center in Oxnard soon.
