Residents Fight Edison’s Land Proposal
A group of North Long Beach residents is trying to block a proposal by Southern California Edison to turn a 72-acre agricultural area into a shipping container terminal.
At a meeting later this month, members of the Coalition Advocating Responsible Development hope to persuade the city’s Planning Commission to leave in place a public right of way zoning designation at the utility-owned parcel along the Los Angeles River beneath several power lines. The residents argue that the proposed storage facility would disrupt their neighborhoods with more truck traffic. Edison now leases the land for agricultural purposes.
