TWA Victims’ Kin to Get Coroner Reports

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The coroner who oversaw autopsies on most of the victims of TWA Flight 800 has started releasing details to family members, though he can’t understand why they would want the “chilling documents.” Dr. Charles Wetli, the Suffolk County medical examiner, began releasing the autopsy reports after being pressured by family members. Some wanted to learn whether their relatives had suffered; others sought information that might be used in lawsuits against TWA and Boeing Co., which made the 747 that exploded minutes after taking off from John F. Kennedy Airport on July 17 and killed all 230 aboard.
