Huskies’ Dillon Will Turn Pro

Corey Dillon, who rushed for a school-record 1,555 yards and 22 touchdowns for Washington this season, announced Friday that he will pass up his senior season to go to the NFL.

Dillon set the Husky single-season all-purpose record with 2,185 yards. His 22 rushing touchdowns tied him with USC’s Marcus Allen (1981) and O.J. Simpson (1968) for the Pacific 10 Conference season record.

Texas Tech junior defensive end Tony Daniels and Virginia defensive back Ronde Barber also said they would turn pro.

Bill Bleil, Western Carolina’s offensive coordinator and offensive line coach, was hired as coach, succeeding Steve Hodgin, who was fired Nov. 18. . . . Doug Williams, the most valuable player of Super Bowl XXII, has been offered the chance to return to his alma mater in 1998 to succeed Eddie Robinson as Grambling State coach, ESPN reported. . . . The NCAA accepted Clemson’s penalties in the case of defensive end Trevor Pryce illegally using a university long-distance credit card. Pryce, who is leaving for the NFL, sat out two games as part of the penalties. Also, Coach Tommy West’s salary was frozen for a year because he waited almost a month before reporting the violation.
