Chung an Upset Winner in Quiksilver Tennis

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Sunny Hills senior Chris Chung defeated Fallbrook’s Ryan Redondo, the nation’s top-ranked player in boys’ 14s, in the first round of the Quiksilver Tenn-X Main Event Friday at the Lindborg Racquet Club.
Chung won, 7-6, 6-4, to advance to today’s quarterfinals.
Also advancing was Woodbridge junior Chase Exon who defeated Torrance’s William Yang, 6-4, 7-6, and Dana Hills’ senior Brandon Fallon, who defeated Huntington Beach’s Beau Kojima, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. UC Irvine freshman Nick Varvais, also advanced with a 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 victory over Redondo Beach’s Sean O’Conner.
The quarterfinals begin at noon today. The semifinals are at 3 p.m. The finals are at noon Sunday.
