Golfing Through the Snow in Switzerland
Friday is the registration deadline for one of the season’s more unusual sports events: the Jan. 18 and 19 Engadin Winter Golf Tournament in Silvaplana, just outside St. Moritz, Switzerland.
Armed with red golf balls and braving temperatures typically down to 10 degrees, golfers play a nine-hole course sculpted from snow on a frozen lake. Last year, 120 people teed off.
The $37 registration fee includes a cocktail party plus snacks; golf balls must be bought separately. Women, juniors and seniors will play Jan. 18, the men on Jan. 19.
To register, contact the Silvaplana Tourist Office; tel. 011-41-81-838-6000, fax 011-41-81-838-6009. The office is open 8:30 a.m. to noon and 2 to 6:30 p.m., Swiss time, Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to noon and 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday.
