Mulroney Settles Libel Suit, TV Says

From Times Wire Reports

Former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney has reached an out-of-court settlement in his $37-million libel lawsuit against the Canadian government, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. said. Citing a source close to the case, CBC television said the settlement included an “unequivocal apology” from the government for wrongly accusing Mulroney of taking kickbacks in Air Canada’s $1.3-billion purchase of Airbus Industrie jets in 1988. The CBC said an official announcement of the settlement is to be made today.
