MTA Launches Study to Improve Bus Service

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority will spend $400,000 on a yearlong study of how to improve bus service from the Westside to downtown Los Angeles, an agency spokesman said Wednesday.

Rick Jager said the public will have a chance to give its input at a series of meetings over the next six months. He said the study does not mean that the agency, which has been under fire for years from bus rider groups for spending money on subway construction, is focusing solely on the needs of Westside riders.

“It’s just that we haven’t changed the system out there in quite some time,” the MTA spokesman said.

Jager said the employment patterns of Westside riders may have changed significantly over the years.

“We want to know: Is what we’re providing working for you?” Jager said. “What would make it work better?”
