Help Offered Elderly With Tax Preparation

The American Assn. of Retired Persons and the IRS have joined forces to aid the old and those of moderate income with income tax preparation.
For the 29th straight year, the association will offer its Tax-Aide Program at various spots around the county beginning Feb. 3.
Volunteer counselors trained by the Internal Revenue Service will be available to help taxpayers, who need only make an appointment. They should bring their 1996 tax packages with them, including statements of wages and other income, as well as copies of last year’s tax return, said Vicki Chin of the Oasis Senior Center in Corona del Mar.
Most senior centers will offer the program, and residents need not belong to the association or the center to qualify.
Centers that residents may use include:
* Oasis Senior Center
800 Marguerite Ave.
Corona del Mar
(714) 644-3244
* Lakeview Senior Center
20 Lake Road
Irvine
(714) 724-6900
* Costa Mesa Senior Center
695 W. 19th St.
Costa Mesa
(714) 631-8171
Residents can also check with senior centers in their cities to see if the program is being offered.
