Scientist Breaks Ban on Embryo Research

A researcher affiliated with the National Institutes of Health used government equipment and personnel to perform genetic experiments on human embryos in violation of a federal ban on such research, federal officials revealed. The NIH severed its relationship with the researcher, Mark R. Hughes, after an internal investigation found he had used the equipment and federally paid postdoctoral students to perform experiments on human embryos at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Md.
