Pendergast Has 35 Points as Pacifica Beats La Quinta

Jaymee Pendergast scored 35 points to lead Pacifica to a 73-47 victory over La Quinta in a Garden Grove League girls’ basketball opener Wednesday at La Quinta.
The Mariners led by four points after the opening quarter before outscoring La Quinta, 23-12, in the second.
Zeinab Elachcar scored 21 points to lead La Quinta (1-10, 0-1).
In another league game:
Rancho Alamitos 48, Santiago 34--Ericka Urias and Eurydyka Ciejka each scored 13 points in a victory for Rancho Alamitos (4-9, 1-0) in the league opener.
Santiago drops to 7-7, 0-1 in league.
In nonleague girls’ basketball:
Harbor City Gateway Christian 42, St. Margaret’s 34--St. Margaret’s was outscored, 29-11, in the second and third quarters, after taking an 11-4 lead. Robin Verner scored 17 points for Gateway Christian. Amber Arnold scored nine points and grabbed 10 rebounds for St. Margaret’s.
In the Prep League boys’ soccer:
St. Margaret’s 2, Webb 1 (OT)--Justin Jameson scored in the 84th minute on an assist from Patrick Moss for St. Margaret’s (5-0-2, 1-0). Moss scored in the 50th minute, tying the score and sending the game into overtime. Andrew Kaplan scored the first-half goal for Webb (4-2-2, 0-1).
In the Garden Grove League:
Los Amigos 2, Bolsa Grande 1--Jose Perez and Hector Jimenez scored for host Los Amigos (1-5, 1-0).
Pacifica 3, La Quinta 3--Donny Vargas scored two goals for La Quinta (1-4-1, 0-0-1). Brad Bernhard, Brandon Chow and Nathan Kolano each scored one goal for Pacifica (3-4-1, 0-0-1).
Westminster 0, Western 0--Jesus Flores recorded his eighth shutout of the season for Westminster (6-4-1).
In Century League girls’ water polo:
Villa Park 11, Foothill 5--Morgan Meyer scored four goals for second-ranked Villa Park (8-1, 1-0). Sarah Gertler had three goals and goalie Brandie Seligman made nine saves for the Spartans. Lisa Helm and Jacqueline Pirro each scored two goals for seventh-ranked Foothill (3-1, 0-1).
In nonleague girls’ water polo:
Canyon 15, Costa Mesa 9--Lauren Volcan scored all of her four goals in the fourth quarter to help ninth-ranked Canyon (9-4). Jackie Tran and Jamie Miller had three goals each.
University 18, Tustin 5--Erin Hayes scored seven goals for University (6-2). Ashley Carlton had four goals and Alex Hylton scored three for the Trojans. Goalie Amy Hilts also made seven saves.
In South Coast League wrestling:
San Clemente 68, Mater Dei 0--Mateo Headrick, who is 22-0 for the season at 215 pounds, increased his pins to 18 in San Clemente’s rout. San Clemente, ranked fifth in the county, is 13-0, 2-0.
In nonleague wrestling:
Canyon 35, Foothill 32--Rick Oishi, ranked second in the county, pinned Foothill’s Jim Haynes in a 171-pound match to give Canyon the winning edge.
