* He broke school records set by his brother Todd by passing for 3,565 yards and 37 touchdowns. Preston completed 212 of 371 passes in leading the Warriors to the semifinals.

* 5-9, 160 pounds, Jr.

* Running back

* A dangerous open-field runner, Davis led Ventura county in rushing throughout the regular season. He finished with 1,577 yards and 18 touchdowns, averaging 8.6 yards a carry.

Brian Nelson / NEWBURY PARK

* 6-2, 250 pounds, Sr.

* Line

* The county’s best offensive lineman, Nelson was also a defensive standout. A two-year starter, he helped protect Chris Czernek, who was sacked only nine times in 12 games.

Mike McGrath / CAMARILLO

* 6-3, 240 pounds, Sr.

* Line

* The son of Scorpion line coach Terry McGrath, he anchored a unit that steadily improved all season. He was adept at protecting Joe Borchard and opening holes for running backs.

* 5-11, 235 pounds, Sr.

* Line

* Alamanza was part of a powerful offense responsible for a surprising turnaround at Rio Mesa. The Spartans went from 2-8 in 1995 to 8-3 this season, when they averaged 381 yards per game.

Joey Locklear / VENTURA

* 6-2, 260 pounds, Sr.

* Line

* A two-year starter at center, Locklear has anchored the Cougars line. He was an all-league selection for the Channel League champions.

* Line

* He set a school record with 90 receptions in only his second year of football. Anger, a Division I soccer prospect, had 1,182 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns.

Patrick Reddick / NEWBURY PARK

* 5-10, 170 pounds, Sr.

* Receiver

* Sixth on the all-time Southern Section list in receptions and yards, Reddick had 77 catches for 1,358 yards despite missing two games. A repeat selection.

Pepe Villasenor / ST. BONAVENTURE

* 5-7, 170 pounds, Sr.

* Receiver

* His 111 receptions led the state and set a Southern Section record. He had 1,278 yards and 15 touchdowns for the Southern Section Division X champions.

* 6-0, 185 pounds, Sr.

* Kicker

* Gonzalez averaged 42.8 yards a punt, kicked four field goals and 21 extra points, and excelled at wide receiver and defensive back.

* Line

* Virtually impossible to block one-on-one, Bernal had 81 tackles and eight sacks. He was named the county’s small schools defensive lineman of the year.

Charles Sandlin / CAMARILLO

* 5-10, 220 pounds, Sr.

* Line

* A captain and two-year starter, Sandlin provided quickness, toughness and leadership for the Division III champion Scorpions. He was equally strong as pass rusher and run defender.

Bobby DeMars / WESTLAKE

* 6-4, 240 pounds, Sr.

* Line

* Alternating at middle linebacker and defensive end, DeMars provided a strong rush and was tough against the run. He has accepted a scholarship to USC.

Joe Martinez / VENTURA

* 6-2, 215 pounds, Jr.

* Linebacker

* A talented wrestler and discus thrower as well as football player, Martinez was especially strong defending the run.

Jud Southwell / THOUSAND OAKS

* 6-0, 205 pounds, Sr.

* Linebacker

* The latest in a long line of bruising Lancer middle linebackers, Southwell had 134 tackles. In addition, he was an offensive threat at fullback, making big catches and runs.

* Linebacker

* He was co-offensive back of the year on the county small schools team. He made 66 tackles in half a season on defense and rushed for 1,625 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Courtney Palmore / OXNARD

* 6-0, 175 pounds, Sr.

* Back

* Palmore had only two interceptions, but quarterbacks routinely avoiding throwing in his direction. Among the county’s fastest athletes, he had 134 tackles.

Joey Cuppari / WESTLAKE

* 6-0, 165 pounds, Jr.

* Back

* Cuppari set a school record with 11 career interceptions. He also was the Warriors’ leading receiver with 79 catches for 1,445 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Jeramie Jackson / VENTURA

* 5-10, 160 pounds, Sr.

* Back

* Jackson rushed for 1,474 yards, but he was just as valuable at free safety and as a kick returner. He returned an interception 38 yards for a touchdown.

Eugene Jackson / CAMARILLO

* 5-10, 170 pounds, Sr.

* Back

* He was the county leader in interceptions with six, three of which he returned for touchdowns. Jackson moved from strong safety to inside linebacker at midseason.
