Hearing on Rezoning Plan Continued

After hearing presentations from city planners and comments from area residents, the Simi Valley Planning Commission early Thursday postponed its deliberations on a rezoning plan that would pave the way for a retail center on the west end of town.
Because of the late hour--12:30 a.m. Thursday--commissioners voted to continue the hearing at the panel’s next meeting Jan. 22.
If the changes are approved, city officials expect that developers will apply to build a 300,000-square-foot “power center” that would be anchored by a least three large discount retailers on 45 acres south of the Ronald Reagan Freeway between 1st and Madera streets.
The proposed changes would also set guidelines for development of an 885-acre area northwest of the proposed mall site.
After the Planning Commission votes on the project, it is slated to go to the City Council for final review.
