George Walintukan, a public works technician, has been named the 1996 city employee of the year.
The City Council, which honored Walintukan at a recent council meeting, praised him in a resolution that called him “the city’s computer wizard.” The resolution also said that he is “dedicated to his job yet always finding time to stop to help a fellow employee.”
Walintukan, 48, is a native of Indonesia who immigrated to the United States six years ago. He has been a La Palma city employee for five years. In a brief acceptance speech, he told the City Council, “I really feel so much honored for this kind of award.”
