Duck update--Despite having beaten Florida twice in eight days, the Ducks have won only three of their last eight. Teemu Selanne is sixth in NHL scoring with 51 points, and his 23 goals rank in the top 10. Paul Kariya is contributing assists, but he and forwards Kevin Todd and Jari Kurri have only one goal among them in the last eight games.

Sabre update--The Sabres are coming off a 6-3 loss to the Kings, only their second loss in four weeks, falling to Pittsburgh, 2-0, on Dec. 28. Goalie Dominik Hasek is the team’s backbone, having played in all but three games. He had a 2.46 goals-against average before facing the Kings and his .925 save percentage was the best in the NHL among full-time goalies. Center Derek Plante leads the team with 20 goals. Former Duck Anatoli Semenov is out after undergoing rotator-cuff surgery.
