I’m surprised that Betty Buckley could ever doubt the validity of her rendition of “Memory” (“Pick of the Litter,” by Patrick Pacheco, Jan. 5). When I hear it, I hear exquisite restraint, artistic fidelity and a passionate longing to begin life anew. Oh yes, Betty Buckley, believe it: You help heal the hurt.

“Andrew Lloyd Webber--Music of the Night” producer Garth Drabinsky is quoted as saying, “[Betty Buckley] understands what those lyrics are all about, and you want someone who can express Andrew’s passions and emotions with clarity and the integrity of the lyrics protected.”
However, there is no mention of the gentlemen who provide the lyrics, and in the case of the “Evita” medley and “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” from “Jesus Christ Superstar,” both of which are singled out in the paragraph that follows, that was and is Sir Tim Rice.
Please give credit where credit is due, because even a singer as gifted as Buckley would be at a loss for words without the songs’ co-writers.
